16-Year-Old Katie Cox Has Joined The Sevenoaks Suns

The Sevenoaks Suns are one of the most well-established sides in Women's British Basketball, with multiple domestic titles to their name and host of great players on their rosters. Names such as Janice Monakana and Catt Carr immediately come to mind. It makes it even that much sweeter for 16-year old Katie Cox who has just signed to the Suns, knowing that she is now part of a club with a lot history and success in British Basketball.

"I'm very excited to join the Suns and look forward to playing in the WBBL," Katie Cox told Hoopsfix. "I know this opportunity will be a great experience and will help me to raise my game to the next level."

Katie's journey to this level at such an early age included time spent at the Richmond Knights who have built a very successful programme especially at the grassroots level. Not only that, Cox has a bunch of international accolades already under her belt which she achieved through Basketball England's talent pathway. This includes the U14s Tournament In Copenhagen, The Basketball England National Showcase 21', the U18 England Women's Basketball Camp 21' and the U16s Four Nations Tournament in which she captained.

She also had a big summer, representing Team GB in the European Championships where she averaged 10.7 PTS, 6.9 REBS and 2.7 AST and playing in the first ever Hoopsfix Summer League Pro-AM where she was also one of, if not THE, youngest player there.

Let's not forget to mention that Katie Cox is not just a basketball player. She kicks ball too and at a very high level, playing with Chelsea Football Club's academy side as a goalie and getting her first England call up for the Lionesses at the U16 level.

All in all, the Suns have got themselves an incredibly talented young player and athlete, one that we're sure will contribute where she can to the success of the Suns and will hopefully get the playing time she'll need.
