Glasgow Rocks Are Under New Ownership

The Glasgow Rocks have announced that they are now under new ownership. After Duncan Smillie's five-year stint, the Rocks are now owned by Caledonia Basketball Holdings LTD, a company owned by millionaires Steve and Alison Timoney.

The company are also the owners of the Caledonia Gladiators, now making them the owners of Scotland's only men and women's professional basketball teams.

“After five years of being the privileged custodian at Rocks, it is time to hand over the ball to Steve & Alison. They have phenomenal energy and passion for the game and will be great owners. Make no mistake this is a game changer for Glasgow Rocks,” said Smillie in the Glasgow Rocks press release.

"The last five years have been great fun on a personal level, COVID aside, and whilst no silverware was delivered, I’m still immensely proud of where the franchise is today.”

Steve Timoney has made clear his vision for basketball in Scotland, with plans to build a new arena that will accommodate both clubs and give back to an already very loyal fan base.

“We have been clear in our commitment to build a purpose-built, leading-edge arena that will provide a platform for this club and our WBBL club, Caledonia Gladiators, to compete at the top level, and for basketball in Scotland to build on what is already a very strong and loyal fan base,” said Timoney.

“Those plans are coming together. When completed, we believe Glasgow Rocks will thrive in an environment where we will see basketball of the highest standard, in a modern arena with the kind of technology and facilities that fans want to experience."
