Caledonia Gladiators Announce £20M Facility Project

The Caledonia Gladiators will have a new arena in 2026, as owners Steve and Alison Timoney announce a £20 million facility project set to start in 2024.

The announcement comes ahead of the Gladiators BBL Trophy Final matchup against the Cheshire Phoenix on March 26th. It's the first time the Gladiators have been in the Trophy finals in 9-years, in a run which saw them defeat the London Lions who have only lost a total of 2 games this year.

The new facility will include 5-courts and is expected to seat 6,000 people. The project will also include a leading academy which will train youngsters for elite level basketball, strengthening the elite pathway for the game in Scotland which has seen double the number of registered basketball players from 2014 to 2019 (4,161 to 8,242).

Until the arena is done being built, the Gladiators men's and women's teams will temporarily move to PlaySport Scotland Leisure Complex which seats 1,800 people.

"We're really proud to be announcing our new plans for the club," said Gareth Murray, the head coach of the Men's Gladiators. "Given the current pressures of working between the Emirates Arena for the men's team and the Lagoon In Paisley for the women's team, it was vital we found a permanent home, so this is really a positive step forward."
