NBL Division 1 side Thames Valley Cavaliers have been acquired by HOOPS BASKET CIC, owned by former London Lions and Manchester Giants head coach, Vince Macaulay.
The acquisition has been orchestrated in partnership with Nhamo Shire, founder of Midnight Madness and the Community Basketball League, London's biggest grassroots basketball competition.
The aim of the move is to "establish a pipeline from grassroots to elite level basketball in the capital", where both Macaulay and Shire have been deeply invested for a long time.
"The opportunity to step in and support the Cavaliers, who have been a significant presence in top-tier basketball, aligned perfectly with our goals," said Macaulay in a press release with Hoopsfix.
"This acquisition marks a new chapter, where we can integrate community based development with elite performance opportunities."
Shire had this to say in regards to the acquisition: " When the opportunity arose to collaborate with Vince and the Cavaliers on a project that’s organic and community-driven, it was a perfect fit. This partnership allows us to further enrich the performance pathways for our players and continue to build on the success we’ve achieved."
The Cavaliers now become the second NBL Division 1 team to undergo some form of acquisition, following on from the Nottingham Hoods who had former Leicester Riders GM Russell Levenston take a 50% stake in the club, as they aspire to take a step to the next level.
