Sevenoaks Suns Vs. London Lions: The 22' WBBL Playoff Finals Preview

Tomorrow will see the Sevenoaks Suns take on the London Lions to decide who will take home the WBBL Playoff title for the 21/22 season.

The Lions will be looking to take home their second playoffs title trophy and if they do so, will become the first team to win consecutive playoff titles since the Sevenoaks Suns 3-peat from 2016 to 2019.

The Lions have shown throughout the season how much of a force they are. With a roster full of experienced and high quality veterans such as Joey Leedham-Warner and Azania Stewart, mixed with the talent of Holly Winterburn, Shanice Beckford-Norton, Kennedy Leonard and more have made Mark Clark's team literally impossible to beat so far this season, currently with a record of 26-0 including the playoffs. For Joey, this season has been an opportunity to put British Basketball on the map and although their European campaign didn't go to plan, it was one of the most successful in Women's British Basketball history, earning the respect of players around the globe.

"We’re trying to show that Women’s Basketball is here in Britain and that we are moving in the right direction," Joey told the WBBL. "We have great young players coming through, we have established talent all over the world, and we want to inspire other young girls that they can do this and be like us."

Meanwhile for the Sevenoaks Suns, it's about getting back to championship winning ways. As previously mentioned, prior to the last couple years of dominance from the Lions, the Suns were the team to beat, winning the last 3 playoff trophies prior to COVID-19. With a regular season record of 21-3 and 2 of those losses coming at the hands of their finals opponents, the Suns will definitely be looking for some revenge and redemption and will be on a high following their tight semi-final encounter with the Nottingham Wildcats.

The WBBL Playoff Finals will be the first of the two fixtures to take place at O2 Arena, with tip-off scheduled for 13:15PM.
